Thomas Families,

Thomas MS has many opportunities for students to become engaged and feel supported at school. Our vision, mission, and fundamental beliefs are focused on students doing their best work and being their best selves at school.

Our core values—respect, integrity, collaboration, lifelong learning, character, leadership, and kindness—guide our actions and behaviors. These words provide a shared foundation of meaning for all of us as parents, students, and staff, shaping how we conduct ourselves daily in our homes and communities.

A student’s attitude toward school is a strong indicator of success, especially during the middle school years when students are developing independence, confidence, and responsibility. The conversation starters below can help guide meaningful discussions at home and support a growth mindset. Ask your student what one or more of these statements mean to them and talk together about how these ideas show up in school, activities, and daily life.

Middle School Conversation Starters:

  • What I do today can impact my future in middle school, high school, and beyond.
  • I can learn new skills, even when they feel difficult at first.
  • Challenges and mistakes help me grow and improve.
  • My effort and attitude matter more than being “good at something” right away.
  • I can be inspired by others’ success instead of comparing myself.
  • I am willing to try new classes, activities, or experiences.
  • I enjoy helping classmates learn and succeed.
  • I treat peers and adults with respect and look for the good in others.

Students will continue to become successful learners as they strengthen their skills in reading and writing and their knowledge of the world they live in through the study of math, science, social studies, and history. At Thomas, we encourage every student to bring their best selves to school and demonstrate their best work while in school.

We are thankful for our families serving in the military at JBLM.
